Florida family's festive adoption fundraiser

One local family has come up with a creative way to cover the costs of bringing in another child. Instead of relying on donations to cover various adoption costs, the Florida residents took a trip to secure some Christmas trees. The family hopes that the sale of the trees will help them raise enough funds to offset the cost of the international adoption.

The couple already has two biological children, but were inspired to adopt a child from India after doing some evangelical work in the country. The fees for the transition are expected to be in the tens of thousands of dollars, including airfare, passports, court costs and other fees. The charitable couple decided that they would raise money by selling Christmas trees in their Florida neighborhood.

The husband took a trip up north to secure the trees in November, and has been learning the business on the fly as he sells them from a tent. The couple anticipate earnings of $5,000 to $10,000 from their efforts this season. As the trees sell, the wife is undertaking the paperwork portion of the process to ensure they will be able to welcome their child within the next six months to a year.

For this Florida couple, they decided to craft a creative side hustle to help defray adoption expenses. Even with cash in hand, the legal end of the process can be meticulous and time-consuming. Many people who have gone through the process have chosen to work with an attorney for the guidance and experience an attorney is able to offer.
